Celebrate your Health!

I was very excited to be able to present this evening to you and your friends! This evening was a celebration of your health that included entertainment, and information.

It is my hope that you left this event with a lighter heart, a more open mind, as well as some new ideas for things that you can do to help yourself and your family with your preventative health care. There are resources that are available in this area that I hope you have learned about. On this page you can begin to get an idea of some of the resources available locally.

Introduction to Beginner's Yoga

There will be a local yoga instructor, Heather Reeves, coming in to give a yoga class. I am a huge fan of yoga for the prevention of muscle pain.

Yoga is not a religion. It is a beneficial way to help you connect with your body. I know that when I am doing yoga regularly, I am much more aware of where I am holding tension in my body, and it becomes easier to let that tension go.

If you have these items please bring them.

an exercise mat

a bathrobe belt or something similar

a pillow

If you do not have these items, come anyway, and do what you can.

Here is Heather's Bio!

Heather Reeeves Registered Massage Therapist, Can Fit Pro certified fitness instructor and Yoga Exercise Specialist has been practicing for the past thirteen years. Incorporating massage and fitness into a wellness program for her clients and fitness participants. Blending exercise, relaxation, meditation and the art of massage to create a unique therapy for her clients.

reroot organic farming with Caitlin Hall

The organic food industry is growing at a rapid rate as people become increasingly aware of the negative environmental and health effects posed by chemical pesticides and fertilizers. This is a fantastic trend, and I couldn't be happier that people are making healthy food decisions that respect both their bodies as well as the earth. However, we can't stop there, we must look at the big picture, beyond the 'certified organic' label and into how our food is grown, who grows it, and how far it travels to reach us. Research shows that currently, 85 to 90 percent of organic food sold in Canada is imported from the US.* Not only does shipping food this far distance contribute massively to greenhouse gas emissions that are fueling climate change, but after spending so much time in transit, the nutritional value of the food is greatly decreased, and food dollars that could be spent locally supporting small-scale farms, are being lost to the globalized food industry.

Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) is a type of food system that connects farmers directly with the people who eat their food in a relationship of mutuality that ensures farmers are receiving a living wage and a stable market; consumers are eating the highest quality of locally grown, fresh food; and the land is being stewarded in a way that ensures healthy, productive, and viable ecosystems for generations to come.

reroot organic CSA, will have its first growing season in 2007, providing a diverse selection of certified organic, fresh produce, grown at Mapleton's Organic Farm, to families in the surrounding communities. For more information or to become a shareholder of reroot organic CSA, please check out www.reroot.ca or contact Caitlin Hall at hallcaitlin@gmail.com or 519-820-1891.

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Bodytalk presentation

To be ill in any way, shape or form, provides the opportunity to know the self at a deeper level…

Knowing the self is the beginning of indescribable freedom…

Tara Beharry holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from McGill University, Montreal. Her interests in complimentary health led her to the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences in Nelson, BC where she earned her diploma as a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is initiated in the Second Degree of the Usui System of Reiki and is a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner. Tara is currently studying Parama BodyTalk, and continues to pursue multiple streams of education, contributing to her own personal evolution, as well as that of her clients.

Every physical or emotional trial and tribulation, every trauma we suffer, is recorded by our body and thus affects our experience of life. Pain, dis-eases, fatigue, unhappiness, relationship problems, or the feeling that ‘something just isn’t right’, are all indications of imbalance. To arrive at a place of healing where balance is restored, means being open to listening to the wisdom of the body, open to the story it has to tell. To truly heal means remembering who we are, why we are here and embracing with gratitude and awareness the amazing journey that is the human experience.

As a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a BodyTalk Practitioner, Tara utilizes energy medicine to facilitate the physical, psychological, and spiritual health and well-being of her clients. Chinese medicine is both an art and a science, comprising over 2000 years of study and observation of the human experience. This wealth of knowledge has recently been combined with the principles and understanding of modern quantum physics, resulting in an energy healing system called BodyTalk, a system which encourages the body-mind to heal itself. The opportunity to become more conscious and sensitive to self as a living system of energy, as part of and not separate from nature, promotes deep and profound healing for many people.

Not only will there be information and Yoga, there will be a special treat for you as well! Come on out and see!

This event was a success!  Thank you to the presentors listed above, as well as the wonderful people who showed up to find out more information about taking care of their health!

Not listed on this website are the bellydancers that entertained us at the end of the evening.  Mandy and her students, The Ladies of Leisure did a fabulous job.  Their dancing was enjoyed by all.  So, if you get a chance to see these ladies perform, it is well worth it!
